Library Services During Covid-19 Response

Common e-Access issues & solutions

I am hitting a pay wall when I try to read an article and/or When I try to use my ISO on the site's login, it does not provide access.
Many of our library subscriptions work seamlessly on campus because the publisher sites recognize the location of your computer. If you are working off-campus, these sites may not know you are an MTU subscriber. In many cases, their login systems are not integrated with ours.

To access the full text of a resource, please search for the title of the article or journal on the library's home page. Navigate to the resource through our catalog; you will be prompted to log in with your ISO username & password. See the Access Materials Off-Campus tab for detailed instructions and pictures.

I navigated to the article/journal via the library but still cannot access full-text.

  1. Try clearing the cache of your browser. If this doesn't work, check to see if you can access the article in a different browser.
  2. Are you reaching an explicit error message? If so, please contact us. Screenshots are helpful!
  3.  Are you using an internet connection that may have a strong firewall? At times, this can interfere with access to some databases. Try accessing from a different network if possible or contact the IT help for that network.
  4. Try accessing the resource using the VPN - this causes the database to think you are on campus, which can resolve some issues. IT's instructions on VPN access and link to the VPN Client, Big-Edge.
  5. If none of these tricks work, please contact the library. We will help you troubleshoot further and ensure that you have access to the resources you need while we resolve any issues.

I use Google Scholar for research and am hitting pay walls when I work from home.
Please use this Google Scholar link available via our Database A-Z list. You will be prompted to log in with your ISO before searching. This ensures you are connected to our resources and have full-text access where appropriate.

I'm having trouble accessing an ebook through the catalog.
Please visit the library's eBook Guide for in-depth help on a variety of ebook platforms.

See the library's FAQ page for additional questions and answers.
