Cite While You Write (CWYW)

EndNote features a toolbar add-on in Microsoft Word that automatically formats your citations and builds your bibliography as you write your research paper. It is easy to change the output style by choosing preloaded styles from the Output Styles dropdown menu in MS Word. You also have the option to download hundreds of EndNote Output Styles from Endnote.com.

  • Place your cursor in the text where you want the citation to appear.
  • Click on the EndNote X7 toolbar tab in your MS Word document.
  • Click on the Insert Citation button on the left side of the toolbar.
  • The EndNote X7 Find & Insert My Reference window will appear.
  • Search for the citation you would like to include and click the Insert button at the bottom of the page.
