eBooks at Michigan Tech

O'Reilly (Safari) Learning Platform

The library subscribes to hundreds of books, learning guides, video courses, and more via the O'Reilly Higher Ed Learning Platform (formerly Safari). Available ebooks appear in our library catalog and other resources can be accessed by browsing the O'Reilly platform by topic. While resources cannot be downloaded, they do allow for an unlimited number of concurrent users and so make options for course materials. The guide below walks through the steps for accessing and using the O'Reilly platform.

Step 1. Navigating to an O'Reilly ebook

If you find a book in the library catalog that is available via O'Reilly, you will see "Safari O'Reilly's Learning Platform for Higher Education" under the View Online section of the book's record. Click this link to jump to the O'Reilly platform where you can access the book's content.

If you are off-campus, you may be asked to log in with your ISO username and password at this point.

Step 2. Log in to O'Reilly Platform

You will be asked to log in to the O'Reilly platform. Please note that Michigan Tech users need to log in via email, not by selecting our institution off of the given list! Select "Institution Not Listed?" below the drop down menu.

On the next screen, enter your @mtu email address (note: this must be your Tech address, you cannot log in with a personal email address) and select "Let's Go".

Step 3. View text in browser

After signing in, you should be taken directly to the ebook you selected. Click the "Start" button under the image of the book to begin reading in-browser! Please note that ebooks on this platform do need to be read in browser and cannot be downloaded. Use the navigation tools to the left to explore videos, courses, and more!
