Like on-campus library users, you are responsible for an item from the time it is borrowed until it is received back at the library. Be sure you know your rights and responsibilities as a library user. Please review our policy pages for the following:
All MTU faculty, staff and currently enrolled students have library privledges. While you may be too far away to visit our building, you still have access to the Van Pelt and Opie Library collections. This guide tells you about the services available to you and how to access them.
Many library materials, including journal articles, conference papers and books are available online through the library's webpages. If you are using the library from off-campus you will be prompted to enter your ISO user name and password before you can access the library's electronic holdings. For any problems accessing library resources online, contact the IT Help desk at email@example.com.
For articles, conference papers and book chapters that are available only in print format you can request a scanned copy using your ILLiad account. We will scan the item and deliver it electronically to your ILLiad account. You will receive an email when your requested item is available. To learn more about ILLiad or to set up your account please visit our Document Delivery page.
If your local library participates in MeLCat, the Michigan Resource Sharing catalog, you can request loans of books, dvds, cd from other MeL libraries and have the item deliverd to your local library. MeLCat is easy to use and free, Check the Participating Libraries to find your local library.
Do you live outside of Michigan? Or, is the book you need not in MeLCat? If so, you can use your ILLiad account to request books for delivery to your location. Just include "Distance Delivery" and your current shipping address in the Notes field of the book request form before you submit it for processing. We will ship material via UPS or insured mail. We ask that you return the material to our shipping address (included with the item) in secure packaging and via trackable or insured method such as UPS or USPS.
