Zotero is a free, open-source tool that is available for download from Zotero.org.

The Zotero word processor plugin for Microsoft Word installs a Zotero toolbar on Word's navigation ribbon. This Add-In automatically formats your citations and builds your bibliography as you write your research paper. Any corrections on items in your Zotero library will automatically update in your texts. Thousands of citation formats are available, although specialized formats must be installed separately from the Zotero Style Repository. Zotero word processor plugins are also available for LibreOffice, OpenOffice, and NeoOffice.
