What is EndNote Basic?

EndNote Basic is a free, limited, web-based version of EndNote (formerly EndNote Web). Although Michigan Tech licenses the full EndNote desktop version to all active Michigan Tech students, faculty, and staff at no additional cost, you will not be able to download software updates once you are no longer affiliated with Michigan Tech.

You can use EndNote Basic alone or sync it with the desktop version so that you have access to your references when you're on the go or when you would like to share your reference libraries with a group.

EndNote.com provides a great comparison chart for your reference.

Benefits:

  • Mobile
  • Syncs with desktop version
  • Share reference libraries with other EndNote Basic users

Drawbacks:

  • Limited reference storage: 50,000
  • Limited attachment storage: 2 GB
